It's Time To Go Hubless

It looks like Dominique Mottas, an avant-garde entrepeneur and car enthusiast, created something great when - in the late 80’s - decided to invest in some technological and biotech fields. With the many projects that he had, he’d invested in some designs of special sports cars. What he found was result was very interesting by […]

Lizards are on my drums!

Well, maybe it’s just me behind the kit, but the RockenWraps company has just released it’s new Reptile Series of drum-skins (we can skin ANYTHING, can’t we?!) which are designed to add depth and maybe a little edge to your old worn-out looking old Ludwig’s with the sparkle shells! You know, I remember friends of […]

The Drive-By PodCast #2!

Well, here it is! I’ve finally managed to complete the second edition of “The Drive-By: Five Minutes of Tech and Nonsense from PaulsBlog.net!” after a week-and-a-half off! I’m really happy to say that the first one got a great response and I’m more than happy to continue so long as you guys are still interested!
Â
You […]

LuxPro is at it again!

In, what I would call, a really funny move, LuxPro has introduced a slightly updated version of its iPod shuffle clone, formerly known as the “Super shuffle.” They’ve slightly changed the control panel and have skinned it in two additional colors, and have cleverly renamed it the “Super Tangent!”

To me, the new name […]

Sharp and Steamy Oven

Â
The Sharp electronics company is getting ready to debut their new Healsio Water Oven. The oven is designed to super-heat steam to 300 degrees Celsius (that’s like 720 degrees Farenheit!) and spraying it on the food to roast it. It can, apparently, squeeze out excess fat and salt, while preserving vitamin C in foods such […]

Retro-review: Japanese tossing the data

In the picture below, you can see some Japanese researchers playing ball with some data.
Â
A group of researchers at the University of Tokyo and at the National Institute of Informatics, managed to enable some PDAs to exchange data by “flicking it” in the direction of the receiving PDA. I covered something like this before - […]

Man RFIDs Himself

So, there’s this guy, who decided to shove an RFID sensor into his hand and plans on wiring up his house and car with sensors that will allow all sorts of wireless-fairie magic to occur when he waves his new “wrist-wand” around. Well, he actually had a doctor implant it, but, that’s just not a […]

Teeny-Tiny Linux Box

The German electronics company, Kleinhenz, has a great new product out. It’s a tiny network-enabled Linux system in a piece of electronics that’s barely large enough to hold the MAC address on the side of a RJ-45 jack. The product, “Picotux” (cute!), is a fully functional Linux-based operating system on a 55Mhz processor, which is […]

I’ve been on Vacation

OK, so, any normal reader of my blog is probably wondering what happened to me, by now… well, at least, I hope you are.
Â
I’ve been on vacation for most of this week and in meetings all day otherwise (that includes my extra activities like my work for the American Diabetes Association - Support […]

Everybody PodShank!

I find it extraordinarilly humorous that there are so many “i” and “Pod” terms out there today. My favorite is definitely “PodShanking;” it just sounds so… rude. It really sounds like you’re doing something wrong, doesn’ it? Well, you are, but I’m not the morality king, so you can decide if it’s right or wrong.
Â

Â
PodShanking […]

Extensions For Your Browsing Pleasure

Over the years, I’ve been under the impression that I would be useful to have proxy tools filter your browsing so that the experience could be as close to what you wanted, as possible. Some years ago, Proxomitron took on the web with a very advanced filtering engine which would allow you to script your […]

(Chrip-chrip) Kirk Here…

This was too good NOT to blog; I had to.
Â
One of my favorite companies (who has a building very close to mine at work), has created a small, wearable, Bluetooth-based communications badge that can allow you to speak commands to control devices in your house, or talk to others, and even have phone-calls.
Â

Â
Siemens Corporation has […]

ROBART-III: Drop Your Weapons!

Â
An interesting prototype robot from the Space and Naval Warfare Systems Center, called the Robart III, is a mechanical rent-a-cop replacement — designed to detect intruders, and kill them with a “pneumatically powered six-barrel Gatling-style weapon that fires simulated tranquilizer darts or rubber bullets,” as read on DefenseTech.
Â
ROBART III uses “head-mounted sensors, including two Polaroid […]

Flip over the M-Bird!

It’s “transistor does MP3!”
Â
The Green House company has announced their latest product, the “Kana M-bird.” It’s a portable audio player with built-in speaker. It’s skins are available in Black, White, and Red. It’s expected to get released later this month in Japan. The estimated street price is $230.00 (23,800 yen).

Some of the tech of the […]

Verizon Gets LG Bluetooth Phone

On March 14th, the folks at PhoneArena published a quick blurb (maybe a kind of leak, I don’t know…) about the new LG VX8100 celluar with Bluetooth wireless on board. My buddy Kevin, from KCTsDigitalWorld.COM covers some of his thoughts on the desire to take advantage of some of the features of this phone.
Â

Â
Personally, I’m […]

THE DRIVE-BY PodCast Premiers!

Well, here it is! I’ve finally managed to complete the first edition of “The Drive-By: Five Minutes of Tech and Nonsense from PaulsBlog.net!”
Â
You can snag the MP3 or you can use a PodCatching client like Doppler, or iPodder (links also available in the Links list in the NavBar, hopefully, to the right!) to pick up […]

MSIE 7.0 Update

It looks like the folks at Microsoft Watch have found some dirt on what the new IE 7.0 will give us. Code named “Rincon” at MS, the new product is supposed to finally support all of that great stuff that MANY other browser alternatives have been giving us for quite some time (’bout time Microsoft). […]

ATAT Walkers Are Real!

Well, sort of…
Â
A Finnish subsidiary of the John Deere corporation, Plustech Oy (how… um… Finnish?), has created a machine to assist The Empire with its latest lumberjack toy. The Plustech Oy Walking Machine (how clever…) is an “eco-friendly” log-hauling machine which is capable of such feats as minimizing the impact on soil, while walking, and […]

Battlefield Beta!

I am again happy that Sony Entertainment has decided to include me in another one of their Beta tests of games for the Playstation 2. I’ve obviously been type-cast to testing “shoot-’em up” games, because the one I’ve just been invited to test is called “Battlefield: Modern Combat.”
Â

Â
Either way, I’m really happy to be doing […]

Using your finger to dial a phone

It’s not astonishing to find out that Asian countries are making much better use of biometric technology than we, here, in the good ol’ US of A. There was a recent article in the Chicago Tribune (that was brought to my attention by the folks at Gizmodo) about something I’d heard about a while ago […]

White iPod Turns Bluetooth

The folks over at AirLogic are offering their newest device to help you get more out of your iPod - or at least, more connectivity choices! The iCombi AP11 wireless stereo iPod dongle will allow you to stream the audio signal from your iPod directly to a compatible Bluetooth device. So, if you’re like my […]

TagZapper zaps those technology bugs

For those of us who definitely have something to hide, or maybe you just want a little privacy – ‘cause we’re all honest here, right… there’s The TagZapper.
Â

Â
West End Laboratories has created a tiny little handheld device which is capable of “wiping†RFID transmitting devices. There is also a product called The RFIDWasher; which allows […]

Work in progress

Over the past few days, I’ve been working on the following projects so that I can bring more news and excitement. Well, OK, more news - you can decide if it’s truly exciting. I’ve found that 4 out of 5 monkeys prefer reading this blog, to being shocked. Well, OK… 2 out of 5… Anyway…
Â
As […]

Super Shuffle is Invisible

It’d didn’t take long for the Super-Shuffle company, LuxPro, website to become mysteriously unavailable. If you try to hit the LuxPro website, you’ll find that the service is unavailable (at least this writing).
Â
I suppose that after iPodLounge reported the strangely familiar shape and design of the LuxPor Super-Shuffle (you know, the device that looks almost […]

Drive-By: Mozilla is dead

It looks like the Mozilla Foundation is calling it quits for the Mozilla Application Suite known as SeaMonkey. No further development will be done on Mozilla the Seamonkey project, as their focus is shifting entirely to new products like Firefox and Thunderbird. But the legacy browser will live on with a new name and independent […]

HomeHub: The other automation system

HomeHub is a brand new piece of automation software for home security and automation. The company is currently looking for Beta trial users to check out their new product. I, myself - a lover of Home Automation - couldn’t resist and asked to sign up right away!
Â
With HomeHub, you’ll be able to control […]

Bluetooth for your Beamer

It looks like Motorola and BMW have decided to integrate Bluetooth between them… In a move that is identical to Nokia and Volkswagon (who did the same thing last week). Moto made the announcement at CeBIT 2005.
Â
The way it works in the Moto-BMW environment is you get in your car, your contacts are downloaded wirelessly […]

Is your iPod Spying On You?

In an article, whose title I have stolen completely, Engadget (see, I TOLD YOU I love you guys!) makes 100% sense about the ridiculous claims of some quack from the “Ponemon Institute” (and having an 8 year old kid, I immediately thought Pokemon Institute, like they said).
Â
There’s an article written in USAToday about Dr Larry […]

The White House Goes Blog!

According to a local article/news radio show, “Bloggers have hit the big time.”
Â
It looks like the first “known” blogger in the White House has his own press pass. A young 23-year-old Garrett Graff writes a blog called ” Fishbowl DC.” The focus of the blog is on the News Media in Washington.
Â
Press Secretary Scott McClellan […]

Istanbul - Not Constantinople, the software!

As of today, it looks like Microsoft has finally given an actual product name to the formerly code-named “Istanbul.” The successor’s public name with be “very Microsoft,” in my opinion: Microsoft Office Communicator 2005. So, the new Windows Messenger, which sports the core features of the old messenger product, but now brings along functionality previously […]
